Coldplay took their new single quite literally out of this world as it got played for the first time in space overnight.
The single called ‘Higher Power’ was played by French astronaut Thomas Pesquet, who is on a six-month mission onboard the International Space Station.
The European Space Agency (ESA) played a live-stream video between Thomas and the band members as he gave a small tour of what he can see as he was looking down on Earth.
The song was played 250 miles above earth with the music video incorporating the extraterrestrial theme as people saw dancing alien holograms.
Introducing the song, front man Chris Martin – who grew up in Exeter – said: “We sent you some music because right now we aren’t able to play for anyone on earth so we thought we’d play for you, our one-man concert.”
When Thomas asked where the concept of the song come from in regards to aliens and space, Chris stated that it was about trying to find the astronaut in all of us.
We then got to see him play the song with him smiling and putting his thumbs up to the band members.
People will get to see Coldplay perform their single Higher Power at the BRIT awards on Tuesday (May 11) as well as Glastonbury’s live-stream music event on May 22.

Although Thomas enjoyed the song from space, it divided many listeners with some saying the song and video was “cringey” on Coldplay’s Twitter.
One person said: “Pretty bad… Basic, cringey and bad.”
Meanwhile, Yons said: “And this is the same band who wrote “yellow” “clocks” “trouble” “scientist” ?? what happened to you ? please come back.”
Menno also said: “Where did it go wrong? It’s awful.”
However, there are some people who are loving their new sound and welcoming them into the “new era”.
Owen tweeted: “I BL**DY LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH.”
Someone else said: “I love the synths !!! they give me very much 80s vibes.”
Kristof was a big fan adding: “I love you guys so much this is the best thing I’ve seen/heard in a very very long time.”
With another saying: “Welcome to the new era, Coldplay!!”
