A new radio station is being launched in Cornwall to give budding artists a platform to show off their talent.
Space FM is a new take on the internet radio. Its aims is to provide a platform for artists from the South West to broadcast live from their own set ups using its server and easy to use broadcasting tools.
Paul Bevan, owner of South West Domes and content manager of Orbital Gathering which is behind the Space FM venture, said: “With all our work supplying events with domes and event management and festival stages gone in one big sweep, I found myself losing a lot of my passion for working in the event industry and lost connection with the music and arts.
“Then while having a chat with Tyrone Burgin our web designer, we came up with the idea to create a platform where you can check out your local DJ’s and help support the event industry, thus, helping us to get it back on its feet.
“From there we came up with the plan of introducing Space FM along with a site where listeners can see what’s going on and what’s happening in the music scene in the south west.”
The station and site will host weekly live shows some 40 of which are already booked for the coming weeks. But Mr Bevan insisted there is still room left to accommodate more acts and promote new and established acts.
He added: “This is set to be a massive collective project of the likes that has not been seen here in the south west before.”
The team behind Orbital Gathering are a collective of event industry workers, business owners and artists.
Most have been working in the sector since the Nineties. Orbital Gathering started out as an end of season party where people who had worked together over the festival and out door event season would come together for one last weekend in a field but without the pressure of having to work.
The crews who would get involved in the creation of the weekends partying bring their own talents and technical abilities to the table.
